How it's actually used

Two overlapping senses: someone who informs on others, and someone who meddles or sucks up to the boss. *Sapear* is the verb, to snitch. In parts of Colombia this is a serious accusation with a serious history, not schoolyard teasing.

Examples

Where it comes from

Literally a toad. The image is of something squat and croaking — making noise it shouldn’t.

Before you say it

Heavier than it sounds. Calling a Colombian a *sapo* in the wrong setting is a real insult with real history behind it — understand it, don’t throw it.

Now actually use it out loud

Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Colombian Spanish — it uses sapo the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Colombian Spanish.
