Privacy Policy

Summary

Lingo Kaiava is a voice-first AI language tutor operated by Kaiava. We collect only what we need to run the service, never sell your personal data, and give you control over optional conversation history.

Information we collect

  • Account data — email address and password (stored as a salted scrypt hash). Optional Stripe customer ID for paid plans.
  • Practice data — language preferences, spaced-repetition cards, streaks, and learner memory summaries derived from your sessions (logged-in users only).
  • Voice and text — when you speak or type to Kaiava, audio may be transcribed on our server and text is sent to our AI provider for a reply. We do not permanently store raw voice recordings.
  • Conversation history (opt-in) — if you enable “Save conversation history” in Settings, we store your chat messages so you can resume later. Off by default.
  • Usage limits — daily message counts per account or anonymous IP (hashed in our database) to enforce free-tier limits.
  • First-party analytics — anonymous page views (path only, no cookies, no fingerprinting).
  • Payment data — processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.

How we use your information

  • Provide tutoring, corrections, reviews, and account features
  • Process subscriptions and send transactional email (password resets, receipts via Stripe)
  • Prevent abuse and enforce tier limits
  • Improve reliability and security

Third-party services

We use trusted processors: Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), and AI inference via our Hermes proxy to OpenRouter-hosted models. These providers receive only the data needed to perform their function.

Cookies

We use a single httpOnly session cookie (taiji_session) when you sign in. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Data retention and deletion

  • Delete all saved conversations anytime in Settings (or email us).
  • Request full account deletion by contacting support@lingokaiava.com.
  • Anonymous session data expires with daily rate-limit windows.

Children

Lingo Kaiava is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Your rights

Depending on your location (including GDPR and CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data. Contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
