What’s up? — or "what’s your problem?", depending entirely on tone.
Among friends it is a normal greeting. Said flatly to a stranger it is a challenge. The pedo family is huge: estar pedo is to be drunk, un pedo is a problem, ni pedo means "oh well, nothing to be done".
Pedo literally means a fart. It became Mexico’s all-purpose word for a situation, a problem, or being drunk.
Crude, and genuinely confrontational with the wrong tone or the wrong person. Keep it for close friends.
Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Mexican Spanish — it uses ¿qué pedo? the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Mexican Spanish.
