How it's actually used

Órale is pure tone. Said with rising surprise it means "whoa." Said flat it means "okay, got it." Said with a push behind it, it means "go on, do it." Mexicans read which one you meant entirely from your voice, which is why it is almost impossible to learn from a textbook and easy to pick up from conversation.

Examples

Where it comes from

From "ahora" (now) plus the emphatic -le ending Mexicans stick on everything: ándale, éndale, híjole, córrele.

Before you say it

Mexican and nowhere else. Say órale in Bogotá or Buenos Aires and everyone will know exactly which movies you learned Spanish from.

What other countries say

Nothing else covers this range. Spain's "venga" and Argentina's "dale" each grab about half of it.

Now actually use it out loud

Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Mexican Spanish — it uses órale the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Mexican Spanish.
