How it's actually used

If a public holiday falls on Tuesday, you take Monday off and make a *puente*. Four days is an *acueducto*, a joke that is now standard. Spaniards plan trips around these and the whole country empties.

Examples

Where it comes from

Literally "bridge" — you bridge the working day between a holiday and the weekend.

Before you say it

Completely neutral. Just know that *hacer puente* means taking the day off, not building anything.

Now actually use it out loud

Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Spanish (Spain) Spanish — it uses puente the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Spanish (Spain) Spanish.
