How it's actually used

In Spain this is punctuation. ¡Joder! for surprise, frustration, admiration, pain. *No me jodas* means "you’re kidding me". *Joderse* means something broke or got ruined. You will hear it from almost everyone, including people who are not angry.

Examples

Where it comes from

An old verb meaning to copulate, long since worn down into a general-purpose exclamation.

Before you say it

Genuinely vulgar, just extremely normalised in Spain. In Mexico or Colombia it lands much harder — do not carry Spain’s casualness across the Atlantic.

Now actually use it out loud

Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Spanish (Spain) Spanish — it uses joder the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Spanish (Spain) Spanish.
