Cool, nice, great.
Nothing to do with the law in casual speech. It is the default Brazilian word for approval, for plans, things, and people. "Que legal!" is the reflex response to good news.
In Portugal "legal" keeps its legal meaning; the Portuguese word for cool is "fixe."
Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Brazilian Portuguese โ it uses legal the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Brazilian Portuguese.
