Fake / dodgy — counterfeit or just not legit.
Used for counterfeit goods, bogus documents, unlicensed taxis, a bad excuse. *Un título trucho* is a fake diploma; *un remis trucho* an unofficial car. Ubiquitous and genuinely useful in Argentina.
Lunfardo of uncertain root, possibly linked to *trucha* (trout) as a word for something slippery.
An accusation of fraud when aimed at a business. Casual among friends, not something to say lightly to a vendor’s face.
Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Argentine Spanish — it uses trucho the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Argentine Spanish.
