To deal with something — to handle it, or to work it out.
One of the most Puerto Rican verbs there is. *Brega con eso* means handle it. *Buena brega* is dealing fairly; *mala brega* is dealing crooked. *La brega* as a noun is the daily grind of getting by, and it carries real cultural weight on the island.
An old Spanish verb for kneading dough or struggling, which Puerto Rico kept and expanded enormously.
Neutral and usable with anyone. Elsewhere *bregar* sounds literary or archaic.
Reading a definition isn't the same as saying it to someone. Lingo Kaiava is a voice tutor set to Puerto Rican Spanish — it uses bregar the way locals do, corrects you in the moment, and never "fixes" the way real people actually talk into textbook Puerto Rican Spanish.
