Traced to a 1956 Mexican film of the same name that was popular in Costa Rica; the phrase stuck and grew into a national identity.
Tourist shops have flattened it into a T-shirt, but locals use it as real, functional language. Using it correctly and casually is a genuine signal you have spent time there.
