Used with pride. "Soy chapín" means I am Guatemalan. "Chapina" for a woman. Guatemalans use it far more than "guatemalteco" in casual speech.

Where it comes from

Possibly from "chapines," a raised platform shoe worn in colonial Guatemala, whose sound gave the wearers their nickname.
